Hafiz Kassam, MD

Hafiz Kassam is a shoulder and elbow specialist, board Certified by both the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. After completing his residency at the University of Toronto, he received sub-specialty fellowship training at both Yale University and the Bone and Joint Institute. He is currently practicing in Northern California and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at California Northstate University where he is helping to develop innovative educational models and undergraduate interest in Orthopedics.

Dr. Kassam has published numerous original scientific research articles, technique guides, instructional videos and has presented his work on both the national and international stage. He is the Program Chair for the annual Northern California Shoulder and Elbow Course and sits on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty (JSEA). He peer-reviews for The Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES), Seminars in Arthroplasty: JSES, Shoulder & Elbow (S & E) and Arthroscopy.

An avid sportsman himself, and having competed internationally as a ranked middleweight boxer, Dr. Kassam is uniquely situated to understand the needs of the competitive athlete and the difficulties they can encounter. He is currently a Ringside Physician for USA Boxing and his volunteer community outreach includes being Head Team Physician for the Marysville Unified School District and several local community colleges.
